What currency is used in Dubai?

The official currency used in Dubai is the United Arab Emirates Dirham, commonly abbreviated as AED. It is also referred to as Dhs or simply Dirham. The Dirham is subdivided into 100 fils. The currency has been pegged to the US Dollar since 1997, with a fixed exchange rate of approximately 1 USD = 3.67 AED.

Dubai, as part of the UAE, primarily conducts all financial transactions in AED, whether it's for real estate, retail, or other sectors. However, due to its global nature, international currencies like USD and EUR are also widely accepted in many places, particularly in hotels and tourist hotspots. That said, all official transactions, including property purchases and contracts, are carried out in AED.

For travelers, it's easy to exchange major currencies for Dirhams at airports, banks, and money exchange centers across the city.
